Mila Đisalov

Dr. Mila Djisalov is a Research Associate at the BioSense Institute. She completed her undergraduate studies in biochemistry and master’s studies in molecular biology at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Novi Sad. She defended her doctoral dissertation entitled “Optimization of the loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) method for field detection of food- and waterborne pathogens” in 2025. Throughout her career, she has participated in numerous projects: 9 international projects, including 4 from the Horizon 2020 program, 3 projects from the Good Food Institute, and 2 bilateral projects. In addition, she has been involved in 3 national projects funded by the Science Fund, 1 project funded by the Innovation Fund, 3 projects from the Provincial Secretariat for Higher Education and Scientific Research, and 1 project led by the Science Promotion Center. She has worked as a visiting researcher at the Technical University of Vienna, Trinity College Dublin, INRAE in Paris, INESC MN in Lisbon, and Wageningen University in the Netherlands.
Her research activity includes the development and optimization of isothermal nucleic acid amplification methods (LAMP, RCA) for molecular diagnostics of pathogens, genetic modifications, antibiotic resistance genes, and tumor markers. Additionally, her work involves the development of biosensors and lab-on-a-chip platforms applied in biomedicine, food safety, and cellular agriculture.
She is particularly engaged in science promotion and was a co-founder and co-coordinator of the “The BioSense Alt. Protein Project”. Furthermore, in 2021, she received the KOMUNALT project grant funded by the Science Promotion Center and participated in organizing the first multidisciplinary conference on alternative proteins in Serbia.
In May 2024, she was awarded, together with co-authors, the Tanner Award for the most cited paper in 2021, published in the journal Comprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety (impact factor 16), where she contributed as one of two first co-authors with equal contribution.
