IPANEMA – Integration of PAper-based Nucleic acid testing mEthods into Microfluidic devices for improved biosensing Applications
Acronym: IPANEMA
Implementation period: 01/01/2020 - 31/12/2023
GA number: 872662
Type of Project: Horizon 2020
Internet presentation: www.ipanema2020.com
Project aim: IPANEMA has formed a large network of multidisciplinary expertise to rapidly realise the potential of paper-based microfluidic platforms.
About the project: Nucleic acids (including deoxyribonucleic acid or DNA and ribonucleic acid or RNA) are found in all cells and viruses. Nucleic acid amplification tests (such as PCR tests) are increasingly used to facilitate detection of the DNA or RNA associated with bacteria, viruses, or other pathogens even when present in very small quantities. However, they are still relatively complex and expensive for widespread use in point-of-care (POC) rapid diagnostic systems. With partners in Europe, USA, China, Russia, and Israel that include SMEs and academics, IPANEMA is working on several different technologies that can be integrated with smart phones for sophisticated yet cost-effective and easy-to-use POC diagnostics.
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under grant agreement No. 872662.
