Evaluation of ecological network for the purpose of more efficient nature protection in AP Vojvodina
Implementation period: 27/05/2016 - 31/03/2020
Type of Project: National
Project aim: Evaluation of ecological network for the purpose of more efficient nature protection in AP Vojvodina is dedicated to improving functional sustainability of the existing networks of natural and semi natural habitats.
About the project: Evaluation of the ecological network will consolidate, expand and strengthen the existing network of natural semi-natural habitats in agricultural settings. The ecological network, as a set of interconnected or spatially close ecologically significant areas, encompass: ecologically important areas, corridors and a buffers zones. The project activities will highlight representative biodiversity indicators and assess the state of nature conservation in AP Vojvodina with evaluation of socio-economic benefits and economic value of ecological network. Update and evaluation of species and high nature value habitats (natural and semi natural) is a key component of scientific based improvement and further development of exiting ecological network. Also, the evaluation of the network functionality at the regional and local level represents an important contribution to the achievement of its strategic goals. The center of the project is to assess the state of the biodiversity and diversity of landscape elements, and based on the project results, we will provide a basis for future spatial landscape planning and agricultural landscape management. The most significant contribution and long-term impact of the project lies in its implementation in the NATURA 2000 system in which the key elements are the assessment of the state and status of endangered species and habitats. NATURA 2000 is an international obligation that our country has accepted within the process of joining the EU, so the system established through the project will be easily implemented in the future NATURA 2000 network of Serbia.
