FoodSafeR – A joined-up approach to the identification, assessment and management of emerging food safety hazards and associated risks
Acronym: FoodSafeR
Implementation period: 01/10/2022 - 30/09/2026
GA number: 101060698
Type of Project: Horizon Europe
Internet presentation: https://foodsafer.com/

Project goal: FoodSafeR project will develop an innovative, open, and easily accessible digital hub with the help of a world-class consortium of organizations and specialists in food safety.
About the project: Europe is facing a significant threat to public health due to various bacteria, allergens, bacteria, fungal and plant toxins as well as parasites, leading to around 20 million cases of illness and many deaths each year. Recent chemical risk emergence has further highlighted the need for better preventative measures. In this context, the EU-funded FoodSafeR project will develop an innovative, open, and easily accessible digital hub with the help of a world-class consortium of organizations and specialists in food safety. The hub will provide warning and management services and propose risk assessment and management methods and strategies. By implementing these features and improving collaborations, FoodSafeR will safeguard European food against biological, climate or chemical hazards.
BioSense role on the project: BioSense (CIT) is developing a machine learning model for remote sensing detection of mycotoxins, particulary aflatoxin and fumonisin, on the maize fields, during the second half of the growing season. This classification model should distinguish between infected and healthy maize based on the threshold defined by the regulations, while using satellite vegetation indices of plant health as input features.
