Dr Sonja Tarčak is a research associate within the Centre for BioSystems at the BioSense Institute. She received a PhD degree from the Faculty of Sciences, University of Novi Sad in 2019 on the subject of ecological effectiveness of forest management in protected areas in Serbia. Before her PhD, she worked as a Marie Sklodowska-Curie early stage researcher on the project „GoverNat“, through which she was trained for interdisciplinary research on natural resource governance. Her research is focused on forest ecosystems, particularly functioning and response of forests to disturbances and environmental changes, and application of remote sensing in forest ecology. She has also conducted research on forest and biodiversity governance in Slovak Republic and Serbia (qualitative and experimental research). She worked on projects oriented on the evaluation of protected areas effectiveness and conservation planning, ecosystem services and policy impact assessment. She was involved in 3 EU projects, 1 national and several smaller projects. Her main fields of interest are: forest management and governance, functional ecology of forests, remote sensing of forests.
