Oil spill monitoring

The project focuses on the development and field validation of a portable sensor system for real-time monitoring of oil spill indicators in marine environments. The system is based on membrane inlet mass spectrometry (MIMS) and is designed to detect volatile oil-related compounds, including benzene, toluene, xylenes, and selected chlorinated hydrocarbons, directly in seawater. The main goal is to provide a rapid, in-situ monitoring tool that can support early detection of oil pollution, reduce dependence on slow laboratory-based analyses, and improve environmental surveillance in sensitive marine areas such as marinas, ports, and offshore locations.
