Project aim: To provide novel sensing and actuating solutions able to address the burning issues in agriculture today, NOCTURNO will bring together and synergistically advance several highly promising research directions which have been investigated separately in the last decade: wave-matter interactions, plasmonics, complex media and artificial materials, acoustic, electromagnetics, optics, bionanosensing.

About the project: The Project will focus on development of sensors and actuators based on non-conventional propagation of acoustic waves in artificial media, electromagnetic/optical sensors based on metasurfaces, and advanced manufacturing technologies including 3D printing, laser-micromachining technology, and e-beam lithography with the aim to provide practical solutions for the fabrication of novel acoustic and metasurface-based sensors and actuators.

Nikolina Janković

Predrag Stankovic is employed in BioSense Institute at the position as Senior Associate at New Product Development Centre. He holds the Master’s degree in Technical Sciences from the University of Novi Sad department of Electronics and Telecommunications (1997). During and after his studies he has specialized in practical development of devices with application in embedded systems, primarily industrial automation. During his career he participated in numerous projects for development of hardware and software for embedded computer systems, working for companies in USA and Republic of Ireland, always in research and development departments (ABB, Cylon Controls, Odenberg, Scientific Systems, NTERA). His specialty is designing microcontroller-based electronic circuits, measurement devices, firmware for Real Time operating systems, PCB design, as well as developing prototypes of complete devices and mechatronic solutions.

Predrag Stanković

Dr Nikolina Janković (F) senior researcher in the Center for Sensing Technologies in the BioSense Institute. Author and co-author of more than 40 journal and conference papers and 5 book chapters. Main research interest metamaterials, plasmonics, acoustics, sensors, and microwave passive devices. The coordinator of the H2020 MSCA-RISE project NOCTURNO and EUREKA project WaQUMoS in Serbia. Well versed in EU regulations and procedures and the EC funded projects. In the last seven years, participated in two FP7 projects: MultiWaveS and InnoSense (Financial and Administrative Manager and WP leader), as well as in three H2020 projects (H2020 Teaming ANTARES, NOCTURNO, and SHealthy).

Goran Kitić works at the position of the Head of the Center for Sensing Technologies within the BioSense Institute. He received a PhD degree from the Faculty of Technical Sciences, University of Novi Sad, Serbia in 2016 on the subject of microwave soil moisture sensors. Goran Kitić developed experience in the field of different fabrication technologies (LTCC, thin&amp;thick film technology, microfabrication, PCB, wire bonding, machining, and 3D printing) and characterization methods (electron microscopy, EDS spectroscopy, UV/Vis spectroscopy, optical profilometry, electrical measurements). His research interests are related to the development of sensors applied in agriculture, food sector and environmental protection. Some of the developed sensor prototypes involve a multispectral sensor for plant status assessment, soil moisture sensor, a device for early mastitis detection, nitrates in water detector. Besides stated, he is heavily involved in the development of a robotic system for soil sampling and analysis. His research work resulted in seven international journal publications, and numerous papers published on international conferences. During his research career, he was involved in 13 international and national projects.

Due to their structure, metamaterials have allowed arbitrary wave manipulation, and open up a possibility to design structures that are extremely sensitive to minute changes of the parameters in their environment, which is a great potential for development of very sensitive sensors. Therefore, we investigate both electromagnetic and acoustic metamaterials with the ultimate goal to develop advanced sensors and actuators for agri-food and environmental applications.

Electromagnetic metamaterials

Metasurfaces recently came into the focus since they are a two-dimensional alternative, that have all features of metamaterials, but significantly simpler fabrication. Due to the size of bioanalytes and the fact that the spectral fingerprints of the biomolecules are mostly related to the visible and infra-red region, we focus our research to the optical metasurfaces to be applied as transducers in the detection of various bioanalytes and biomolecules.

Acoustic metamaterials

&nbsp;

We investigate various analogs to electromagnetic metamaterial phenomena, with specific interest in acoustic spoof surface plasmons, distinct surface waves supported at the interface between fluid and rigid corrugated surface. Corrugations represent metamaterial unit cells, and their appropriate design can be employed to control waves behavior and to realize various functional devices.
Based on this, we develop acoustic spoof surface plasmon devices, that can control acoustic pressure distribution and consequently be used in actuating applications such as irrigation systems. We also employ the tremendous sensitivity of the surface waves to the parameters of the surrounding fluid, to develop acoustic gas sensors, which allow detection of the composition of gas mixtures.

NOCTURNO -Non-Conventional Wave Propagation for Future Sensing and Actuating Technologies

Cilj projekta: Kako bi se obezbedila nova senzorska i aktuatorska rešenja za goruće probleme u današnjoj poljoprivredi, NOCTURNO okuplja i sinergijski unapređuje nekoliko vrlo obećavajućih istraživačkih pravaca koji su u poslednjoj deceniji istraživani odvojeno: interakcije talasa i materije, plazmoniku, veštačke materijale, akustiku, elektromagnetiku, optiku i biosensing.

O projektu: Projekat se fokusira na razvoj senzora i aktuatora zasnovanih na nekonvencionalnom prostiranju akustičnih talasa, elektromagnetnih/optičkih senzora zasnovanih na metapovršinama kao i na napredne tehnologije fabrikacije s ciljem da se pruže praktična rešenja za fabrikaciju novih senzora i aktuatora.

Viši naučni saradnik u oblasti tehničko–tehnoloških nauka, telekomunikacije i informacione tehnologije

Predrag Stanković je zaposlen u Institutu BioSens na poziciji Starijeg saradnika u Centru za razvoj novih proizvoda. Poseduje Master diplomu Fakulteta tehničkih nauka Univerziteta u Novom Sadu smer Elektronika i Telekomunikacije (1997). Tokom i posle studiranja specijalizovao se za praktični razvoj uređaja sa primenom u embeded sistemima, primarno industrijskoj automatizaciji, Tokom karijere učestvovao je na brojnim projektima razvoja hardvera i softvera za embeded računarske sisteme, kao zaposlen u firmama u SAD i Republici Irskoj uvek u istraživačko-razvojnim odeljenjima (ABB, Cylon Controls, Odenberg, Scientific Systems, NTERA). Uža specijalnost su mu projektovanje elektronskih kola baziranih na mikrokontrolerima, merni uređaji, programiranje firmvera za Real Time operativne sisteme, projektovanje PCBa, kao i izrada prototipa kompletnih uređaja i mehatroničkih rešenja.

Goran Kitić je zaposlen na poziciji Rukovodioca centra za senzorske tehnologije na Institutu BioSens. Doktorirao je na Fakultetu tehničkih nauka, na Univerzitetu u Novom Sadu 2016. godine na temu mikrotalasnih senzora vlažnosti zemljišta. Goran Kitić ima iskustva u oblastima raznih tehnologija fabrikacije (LTCC, debeloslojna i tankoslojna tehnologija, mikrofabrikacija, PCB, wire bonding, mašinska obrada i 3D štampa) i metoda karakterizacije (elektronska mikroskopija, EDS spektoroskopija, UV/Vis spektroskopija, optička profilometrija, električna merenja). Njegova istraživanja su u vezi sa razvojem senzora koji svoju primenu imaju u poljoprivredi, prehrambenom sektoru i zaštiti životne sredine. Neki od razvijenih prototipa senzora uključuju multispektralni senzor za utvrđivanje statusa biljaka, senzor vlažnosti zemljišta, uređaj za rano otkrivanje mastitisa, detektor nitrata u vodi. Pored navedenog, u velikoj meri je uključen u razvoj robotskog sistema za uzorkovanje i analizu zemljišta. Njegovo istraživanje je publikovano u 7 međunarodnih časopisa, i brojnim radovima objavljenim na međunarodnim konferencijama. Tokom svoje karijere, učestvovao je u 13 međunarodnih i nacionalnih projekata.

Dr Nikolina Janković je stariji Istraživač u Centru za senzorske tehnologije Instituta BioSens. Autor i koautor više od 40 radova u časopisima i na konferencijama, kao i 5 poglavlja u knjigama. Njena polja interesovanja uključuju metamaterijale, akustiku, plazmoniku, senzore i mikrotalasna pasivna kola. Koordinator je H2020 MSCA-RISE projekta NOCTURNO i EUREKA projekat WaQUMoS u Srbiji. In poslednjih sedam godina učestvovala je u 2 FP7 projekta MultiWaveS i InnoSense (menadžer projekta i vođa radnog paketa), kao i u 3 H2020 projekta (H2020 Teaming ANTARES (vođa radnog paketa), NOCTURNO (rukovodilac) i SHealthy).

Ovaj projekat je finansiran od strane Evropske Unije, iz programa za Istraživanje i Inovacije-Horizont 2020, pod sporazumom o grantu broj 788217.           
 


Horizont 2020

Zahvaljujući svojoj strukturi, metamaterijali omogućavaju proizvoljnu manipulaciju talasima, ali i otvaraju mogućnost za projektovanje struktura koje su izuzetno osetljive na male promene parametara u okruženju, što predstavlja veliki potencijal za razvoj veoma osetljivih senzora. U tom smislu, mi istražujemo elektromagnetske i akustičke metamaterijale, s krajnjim ciljem da razvijemo napredne senzore i aktuatore za primene u poljoprivredi i zaštiti životne sredine.

Elektromagnetski metamaterijali

&nbsp;

Metapovršine su u poslednje vreme postale fokus istraživanja, imajući u vidu da one imaju sve osobine metamaterijala, ali se karakterišu daleko jednostavnijom fabrikacijom. Zbog veličine bioanalita i činjenice da se spektralni otisci biomolekula najčešće nalaze u vidljivoj i infracrvenoj oblasti, naša istraživanja su usmerena ka optičkim metapovršinama, koje su veoma osetljive na promene u okolnoj sredini i koje se mogu primeniti kao transdjuseri u detekciji različitih bioanalita i biomolekula.

Akustički metamaterijali

&nbsp;

Predmet naših istraživanja su različite akustičke analogije elektromagnetskim metamaterijalima i fenomenima, sa posebnim interesom za akustičke spoof površinske plazmone koji predstavljaju naročite površinske talase koji se prostiru na granici između fluida i izbrazdane čvrste površine. Brazde se mogu posmatrati kao jedinične ćelije metamaterijala i njihovim odgovarajućim projektovanjem može se postići kontrola talasa, ali i realizacija komponenti različitih funkcionalnosti.

Shodno ovome, mi razvijamo uređaje bazirane na akustičnim spoof površinskim plazmonima, koji mogu kontrolisati distribuciju akustičkog pritiska i kao takvi naći primenu u aktuatorima koji se koriste u sistemima za navodnjavanje. Takođe, mi koristimo veliku osetljivost akustičkih površinskih talasa na parametre okruženja, kako bismo razvili akustičke gasne senzore, koji omogućavaju detekciju sadržaja smeše gasova.
