Project aim: The main goal of the project is provide financial support in the form of grants for 60 small and medium enterprises and Internet entrepreneurs from European IT community, with a focus on the Balkans, in order to develop applications for the agricultural sector based on the so-called “Future Internet” principles and technology.

About the project: The total fund of the FRACTALS project which was intended for financial support was 5.52 million Euros. In addition to grants, the support was multidimensional and included: building the technical capacity of small and medium enterprises and Internet entrepreneurs; application testing and validation; mentoring support. In this way, the project encouraged the development of the agricultural sector, where the application of digital services and services based on the Internet and Internet applications is still not at a satisfactory level in the whole of Europe. FRACTALS is one of 16 European projects that has supported the development of IT technologies based on the <a href="http://www.fi-ware.org/">FIWARE</a> platform.

Research and innovation at BioSense is developed in a close interaction with farmers and the agrifood sector, government bodies, entrepreneurs and business community, international researchers, and citizens. We work together to create a new generation of open innovations which will be readily used, and which will bring benefits across the entire value-chain.

As a meeting place for all the relevant stakeholders, we have established PA4ALL – Precision Agriculture Living Lab. This is the first living laboratory in Serbia and one of the first in Europe to focus on precision agriculture. PA4ALL takes full advantage of inter-sectoral cross-fertilization of ideas and offers possibilities to test ideas and prototypes in the real-world setting.

Over the last 5 years, PA4ALL has been placing an increasing emphasis on the importance of multi-actor and transdisciplinary projects. Since Living Labs provides a meeting point for true engagement of diverse groups of actors in joint research and innovation, PA4ALL based its activities on educating its community on precision agriculture, motivating end-users to test and validate the IT innovations and ensuring their adoption among various stakeholders. It is, therefore, not surprising that PA4ALL strives to even change the curriculum in high-school education in order to cultivate the knowledge on precision agriculture in the society.

PA4ALL activities are bridging the gap between the leisurely changing public sector and modern technologies which are modifying the way agriculture is perceived today. By reinforcing co-creation and multi-stakeholder participation, PA4ALL is not only gradually widening its network but also encouraging and supporting new Living Labs which emerged in the region in the meantime. In addition to the above-mentioned, throughout the Living Lab approach, PA4ALL plans to create a future network of actors who are expected to closely cooperate in the field of agroecology, which is a new concept thriving to become a pivotal change in the way agriculture production impacts the environment.

It is relevant to mention that PA4ALL also encourages the academy to engage more with the users of research, industry, government, and other relevant actors in order to implement precision agriculture in real-life decision-making processes. One of the methods mostly used for the purpose of implementing Living Lab approaches among the research community is RRI - Responsible Research and Innovation. RRI involves engaging the communities affected by innovation and ensuring that they have the knowledge necessary to understand the implications by furthering science education which is exactly PA4ALL’s main goal for the future.

BioSense provides the connecting link in the value chain by:

&nbsp;

-  Promoting the use of advanced ICT technologies to local farmers and assisting them in improving their performance and complying with environmental regulations;

&nbsp;

- Developing win-win synergies with agri-business support companies of the region (providers of fertilizers, pesticides, consulting services), that currently consist the most agile and motivated link in the value chain, since they have both direct access to farmers and clear motives to introduce advanced technologies as complimentary services to their existing portfolio;

&nbsp;

-  Encouraging the local ICT sector to move towards a paradigm-shift, namely from a strategy based on outsourcing that simply exploits the relative low wage costs of developers, to one that is based upon the competitive strengths of the entire regional eco-system and the exploitation of own solutions, with significantly higher added value.

&nbsp;

-  The introduction of ICT subject in high schools specialized in agriculture and educating younger generations on the implications which arise from AgTech will increase the awareness of the relationship between technology and agriculture and therefore make agriculture more attractive to younger generations.

BioSense Accelerator is an intensive 3-month program that targets early-stage AgTech startups and acts as a bridge between science and business. It is an excellent opportunity for startups to bring their bold AgTech ideas to life, grow, fast track their journey, and solve key challenges in the agrifood sector. The accelerator is the only one in the country that provides support to domestic and regional IT entrepreneurs focused on creating innovative and groundbreaking digital solutions for agriculture.

The first batch of BioSense Accelerator started in October 2019 and over the course of three months that were jam-packed with interactive workshops and bespoke trainings, 8 teams mastered multiple skills: how to develop a business idea, define a business model, identify the needs of future users and conduct detailed analysis of the market and competition. Top-notch tech and business support, as well as guidance from industry and technology experts brought startups and their ideas to the next level. In the second batch (2020), we are joining forces with EFSE Fund and the best B2B accelerator in Europe, Startup Wise Guys.

Besides a comprehensive support, BioSense Accelerator has given the teams a get-ready guide for fundraising, and startups that participated in the first batch raised 140K Euros over a period of six months.

The idea of BioSense Accelerator is to boost entrepreneurial mentality in our country and subsequently, that will lead to economic growth and development. The goal is also to motivate regional IT entrepreneurs to be bold and create their own products.

FRACTALS -Future Internet Enabled Agricultural Applications

Cilj projekta: Glavni cilj projekta je podrška u vidu finansijskih sredstava (grant-ova) za 60 malih i srednjih preduzeća i internet preduzetnika iz evropske IT zajednice sa fokusom na Balkan, a u svrhu razvijanja aplikacija za sektor poljoprivrede koje su bazirane na tzv. „Future Internet“principima i tehnologijama.

O projektu: Ukupan fond FRACTALS projekta koji je bio namenjen za finansijsku podršku iznosio je 5,52 miliona evra. Osim bespovratnih finansijskih sredtava, podrška je bila višedimenzionalna i podrazumevala je: izgradnju tehničkih kapaciteta malih i srednjih preduzeća i internet preduzetnika; tesitranje i validaciju aplikacija; mentorsku podršku. Projekat je na ovakav način podsticao sektor poljoprivrede, gde primena digitalnih servisa i usluga baziranih na Internetu i Internet aplikacijama jos uvek nije na zadovoljavajućem nivou u čitavoj Evrope. FRACTALS je jedan od 16 evropskih projekata koji je podržao razvoj IT tehnologija zasnovanih na <a href="http://www.fi-ware.org/">FIWARE</a> platformi.

Istraživanje koje je dovelo do ovih rezultata finansirano je od strane Evropskog Istraživačkog Saveta u okviru Sedmog okvirnog programa Evropske unije (FP7 / 2007-2013) / ERC po ugovoru o grantu pod brojem 632874.

Istraživanja i razvoj inovacija na Institutu BioSens uvek se odvijaju u saradnji sa farmerima, poljoprivrednim i vladinim sektorom, preduzetničkom i poslovnom zajednicom, međunarodnim istraživačkim centrima i građanima. Radimo zajedno u cilju stvaranja novih „otvorenih inovacija“ koje će biti lake za upotrebu i koje će doneti korist svim učesnicima u celokupnom lancu vrednosti.

Kao mesto okupljanja svih značajnih interesnih grupa, osnovali smo „živu laboratoriju“ za preciznu poljoprivredu (eng. Precision Agriculture Living Lab – PA4ALL). Ovakva laboratorija je pionirski poduhvat u Srbiji i jedna od prvih u Evropi koja je usmerena na preciznu poljoprivredu. Spajanje ideja koje potiču iz različitih sektora i mogućnost testiranja novih rešenja i prototipova u realnim uslovima – na terenu, glavni su ciljevi PA4ALL.

Od 2013. godine, PA4ALL stavlja sve veći akcenat na projekte koji povezuju učesnike različitih profila i više disciplina. Budući da je ideja koncepta “žive laboratorije” da stvori zajednicu orijentisanu ka istraživanju i inovacijama, PA4ALL svoje aktivnosti temelji upravo na edukaciji zajednice o preciznoj poljoprivredi i njenoj primeni. Stoga nije iznenađujuće što PA4ALL kroz svoje projekte nastoji čak i da promeni nastavni plan i program u srednjoškolskom obrazovanju kako bi se u društvu negovalo znanje o preciznoj poljoprivredi. Tako se premošćuje jaz između javnog sektora i savremenih tehnologija koje menjaju način na koji se poljoprivreda danas doživljava.

Podstičući viziju zajedničkog stvaranja i kreativne saradnje, PA4ALL ne samo da postepeno širi svoju mrežu, već i pruža podršku novim “živim laboratorijama” koje su se u međuvremenu pojavile u regionu. Osim toga, po principu koncepta “žive laboratorije”, PA4ALL planira da stvori i ojača novu mrežu stručanjaka čiji će fokus biti oblast agroekologije, novi koncept koji podstiče ključne promene u načinu na koji poljoprivredna proizvodnja utiče na okolinu.

Kako bi poljoprivreda u Srbiji pratila svetske trendove i koncept precizne poljoprivrede bio implementiran na što bolji način, PA4ALL se zalaže za povezivanje naučne zajednice sa krajnjim korisnicima, industrijom, vladinim sektorom i drugim relevantnim učesnicima. Jedna od metoda koja se koristi u svrhu promocije samog koncepta “žive laboratorije” u naučnim krugovima je RRI (Responsible Research and Innovation) - Odgovorno istraživanje i inovacije. Ona uključuje angažovanje svih zajednica u oblasti nauke i inovacija, zajedničko stvaranje novih rezultata koji će doprineti transformaciji društva i unapređenje sistema obrazovanja, što je upravo i glavni cilj PA4ALL-a.

Institut BioSens dodaje kariku koja nedostaje u čitavom lancu vrednosti time što:

-  Promoviše upotrebu naprednih IKT tehnologija lokalnim poljoprivrednim proizvođačima uz konstantnu asistenciju u cilju poboljšanja njihovih performansi, uz poštovanje propisa o zaštiti životne sredine;

&nbsp;

- Razvija sinergiju sa kompanijama koje pružaju podršku razvoju sektora poljoprivrede u regionu (proizvođači đubriva, pesticida, pružaoci konsultantskih usluga), koji trenutno predstavljaju najagilnije i najmotivisanije igrače, s obzirom na činjenicu da imaju direktan pristup poljoprivrednim proizvođačima i jasne motive za uvođenje usluga zasnovanih na naprednim tehnologijama pored usluga koje već pružaju;

-  Podstiče lokalni IKT sektor da menja princip na kom funkcioniše, te da svoju strategiju zasnovanu na sprovođenju operativnih aktivnosti za evropske kompanije, koje koriste prednost relativno niske cene rada inženjera, pomeri ka strategiji zasnovanoj na kompetitivnim snagama čitavog regionalnog ekosistema i eksploataciji sopstvenih rešenja (proizvoda) sa značajno većom dodatom vrednošću.

-  Uvođenje predmeta iz oblasti informacionih tehnologija u poljoprivredi u srednje poljoprivredne škole i obrazovanje mlađih generacija o implikacijama koje proizlaze iz Agtech-a podići će svest o uskoj povezanosti tehnologije i poljoprivrede danas i stoga poljoprivredu učiniti privlačnijom za mlađe generacije.

BioSens akcelerator je intenzivan, tromesečni program namenjen AgTech startapima u ranoj fazi i predstavlja snažan most između nauke i biznisa. Program omogučava startapima da rastu, ubrzaju svoje putovanje od početne AgTech ideje do biznisa, i reše ključne izazove u poljoprivredno-prehrambenom sektoru. BioSens akcelerator je jedini takve vrste u Srbiji koji pruža podršku domaćim i regionalnim IT preduzetnicima usredsređenim na stvaranje inovativnih i revolucionarnih digitalnih rešenja za poljoprivredu.

Prvi BioSens akcelerator počeo je u oktobru 2019. godine i tokom tri meseca koja su bila ispunjena interaktivnim radionicama i specijalnim treninzima, 8 timova savladalo je nekoliko veština: kako razviti poslovnu ideju, definisati poslovni model, identifikovati potrebe budućih korisnika i sprovesti detaljnu analizu tržišta i konkurencije. Zahvaljujući vrhunskoj tehničkoj i poslovnoj podršci, kao i smernicama prominentnih stručnjaka- mentora, startapi su svoju početnu ideju podgili na viši nivo. Nakon veoma uspešnog prvog BioSens akceleratora, Institut BioSens nastavlja da podržava preduzetnike. U realizaciji BioSens akceleratora 2020., Institut je udružio snage sa Evropskim fondom za Jugoistočnu Evropu i najboljim B2B akceleratorom u Evropi, Startup Wise Guys.

Pored tehničke, poslovne i mentorske podrške, BioSens akcelerator omogućio je timovima i da se upoznaju sa strategijom prikupljanje sredstava, a startapi koji su učestvovali u programu prikupili su 140 hiljada evra tokom šest meseci. Ideja BioSens akceleratora jeste da podstakne preduzetnički mentalitet u našoj zemlji, a time i ekonomski razvoj, kao i da motiviše regionalne IT preduzetnike da hrabro stvaraju svoje proizvode.
