The three-day Know4Nano Training School on Food Safety, held at BioSense Institute, provided researchers with an opportunity to explore contemporary challenges, methods and innovations in food safety monitoring and control.

The first day combined lectures with practical laboratory training delivered by Dr Ljiljana Janjušević, Dr Mila Djisalov and Ana Kuprešanin. The programme covered microbiology, biosafety, microbial cultivation and molecular detection methods, with particular emphasis on LAMP amplification and its potential application in biosensing.

The second day featured expert lectures addressing various aspects of food safety. The speakers included Dr Dragoljub Cvetković, Dr Ilija Brčeski from the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Belgrade, Dr Ivan Nastasijević from the Institute of Meat Hygiene and Technology, and Dr Jovana Kos and Dr Jelena Miljanić from the Institute of Food Technology in Novi Sad. Participants gained insights into food safety systems, heavy metal contamination, meat safety control, mycotoxins and the impact of climatic conditions on food safety.

The final day was dedicated to online lectures delivered by experts from the National Research Council of Italy (CNR). Dr Paola Italiani presented analytical strategies for lipopolysaccharide detection, while Prof. Dr Rachele Isticato discussed bacterial spore formation and modern technologies for spore detection.

The Training School provided a valuable opportunity to acquire new knowledge, exchange experience and strengthen expertise in food safety, biosensing and analytical methods. Activities of this kind contribute to the objectives of the Know4Nano project, which focuses on advancing scientific excellence, strengthening research capacities and fostering international cooperation.

BioSense Institute extends its appreciation to all lecturers and participants who contributed to the successful delivery of the Training School.
