Dr. Sreten Terzić is a scientific advisor (principal research fellow) at the Center for Biosystems. He completed his undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Biology in Belgrade and earned his doctorate in 2010 in the field of genetics and plant breeding at the Faculty of Agriculture in Novi Sad. Before joining the BioSense, Sreten worked at the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad on sunflower genetic resources and their application in breeding cultivated sunflowers, as well as examining plant-pollinator interactions to improve agricultural production. He completed further training in plant genetic resources and intellectual property in Sweden (SLU) with a scholarship from the Swedish International Development Agency and support from Bioversity International. He spent two years at the company LoginEKO, where he worked on the agroecological aspects of organic plant production with a focus on agroforestry and soil health. He participated in several projects, including coordinating a subproject in one national project. From 2012 to 2022, he was a member of the national working group for plant genetic resources. He was deputy editor of the national journal “Field and Vegetable Crops” from 2012 to 2022 and reviewed papers in several international journals. He was a member of scientific committees for international conferences on sunflowers in 2011, 2022, and 2024, as well as the organizing committee in 2022. He has given invited lectures at several conferences. His research interests are focused on optimizing ecosystem services to increase the sustainability of food production and environmental conservation.
