Nemanja Cvjetan

A chemist by training, Nemanja obtained PhD in Chemistry from ETH Zurich, Zürich, Switzerland (Department of Materials, Multifunctional materials group). The group was led by Prof. Dr. Markus Niederberger, while Nemanja’s direct supervisor was Prof. me. Dr. Peter Walde.
His thesis focused on developing and understanding the catalytic activity of hemin – a key component of various metalloenzymes – in the presence of soft materials such as micelles and liposomes in complex molecular systems. The project was funded by the European Union through a Marie Sklodowska-Curie grant (grant number: 813873). The broader aim of the seven-member consortium was to uncover new insights into the origins of life and the emergence of cell-like structures.
In 2023, Nemanja held a postdoctoral position at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada, (Department of Chemistry), where he investigated fusion processes between cell-like compartments (liposomes) using various spectroscopic and microscopy techniques.
In 2024, he joined Planet Systems Group in Novi Sad, where he indirectly supported the American Chemical Society publishing house. As a member of the Publication Integrity team, he provided guidance to managing editors on handling cases of unethical behavior at any stage of the publication process across all ACS journals.
Beyond his passion for chemistry, Nemanja is especially interested in improving science communication and education by integrating innovative technologies, such as artificial intelligence, into traditional learning frameworks.
