BioSense, Research and Development Institute for IT in biosystems, is a pioneer in digital transformation of agriculture in Serbia, founded in 2015. Exploring scientific and technological frontiers regarding the application of IT in agriculture, the Institute strives to deliver state-of-the- art digital solutions to the farming sector in Serbia and the world, in order to ensure higher yields with smaller investments.

Material science, micro and nano electronics, sensor design, remote sensing, Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, biosystem research, cellular agriculture and bioarcheology are just some of the scientific fields BioSense integrates to make agriculture more efficient and uses science as a backbone for economic growth, social well-being, and employment. 
Where are we on the world’s scientific map?

Thanks to such a transdisciplinary approach, the Institute has left an indelible mark in the international scientific community. This is proved by the participation in 30 national and around 50 international projects, most of them from the European Union&#8217;s Research and Innovation Program – Horizon 2020, as well as numerous national and international awards that researchers from BioSense have won. The most prominent project, ANTARES (H2020), supported by the European Commission and the Republic of Serbia, aims to turn the BioSense Institute into a leading European Center of scientific excellence in sustainable agriculture.

Science for society
&nbsp;
None of the scientific breakthroughs remain bound within the walls of our laboratories. They are integrated into society and available to farmers, extension services, companies, policy makers, students, and pupils. In March 2018, BioSense launched the first Digital Farm in Serbia that provides all stakeholders with hands-on learning opportunities and showcases how AgTech solutions can be implemented in real-world settings. The virtual part of the farm – the AgroSense digital platform – enables farmers and extension services to monitor crops for free and plan activities using computers and mobile phones, based on the data collected from satellite images, drones, robots, various sensors, and meteorological stations. More than 15,000 registered users are an indicator of successful digital transformation. Due to the partnership with the European Space Agency, BioSense is the only distributor of Sentinel satellite imagery in the country. Also, the impact is spread globally through other collaborations with FAO, EBRD, World Bank and UNICEF.

About Us

BioSens, istraživačko-razvojni institut za informacione tehnologije biosistema, osnovan je 2015. godine i pionir je digitalne transformacije poljoprivrede u Srbiji. Zahvaljujući sveobuhvatnom i transdisciplinarnom pristupu, Institut ostavlja neizbrisiv trag u međunarodnoj naučnoj zajednici. To svakako potvrđuju 30 nacionalnih projekata i oko 50 međunarodnih (od kojih je većina iz programa Evropske Unije za istraživanje i inovacije – Horizont 2020), kao i mnogobrojne nacionalne i međunarodne nagrade istraživača Instituta. Sva naučna otkrića i znanja ne ostaju zarobljena u laboratorijama Instituta, već su dostupna poljoprivrednicima, savetodavnim službama, kompanijama, kreatorima politika, učenicima i studentima. U martu 2018. godine, Institut BioSens pokrenuo je prvu Digitalnu farmu u Srbiji, kako bi svi pomenuti akteri iz prve ruke naučili kako se najnovija digitalna rešenja primenjuju u praksi. Virtuelni deo digitalne farme – digitalna platforma AgroSens, pruža mogućnost poljoprivrednicima i savetodavcima da besplatno prate stanje useva i planiraju aktivnosti uz pomoć računara i mobilnog telefona, a na osnovu podataka prikupljenih sa satelitskih snimaka, dronova, robota, različitih senzora i meteoroloških stanica. Više od 15.000 registrovanih korisnika platforme u Srbiji dokaz je uspešnosti digitalne transformacije. Zahvaljujući partnerstvu sa Evropskom svemirskom agencijom, Institut BioSens je jedini distributer Sentinel satelitskih snimaka u zemlji. O Nama

BioSense’s Centre for Sensing Technologies focuses on development of sensing devices based on optical, physical and electromagnetic properties of the surroundings. These measurements, however, have to be delivered and presented to the user, so that he could make optimal decisions on them. Key ingredient for that is the communications layer of IoT technology that deals with interoperability issues in order to support devices communication and enables the data exchange between heterogeneous field sensors and management information systems.

&nbsp;

One of the goals of IoT research at BioSense is to enable communication of sensors with other devices. These devices fall into two groups. The first consists of machine-to-machine communication devices, such as base stations and gateways. An example of this is the add-on for the 500 weather stations that BioSense will deploy across Serbia. It enables them to be integrated to the LoRa network and gather spatially precise measurements of weather parameters. The second group consists of mobile phones and tablets, that is, the devices for direct presentation of the results to the user. An example of this is the communication pipeline developed for the Plant-O-Meter device that senses the reflectance from the plant canopy in four bands (blue, green, red and near infrared). Here, the aim was to transfer the data processing from the sensor to the mobile phone and further to the server with a geo-database for storing processed data. The solution utilizes two network connectivity types (Bluetooth and Wi-Fi) to enable capturing and transmitting geo-localised real-time information. Established connection layer transmits raw measurements of spectral reflectance to mobile phone where vegetation indexes are calculated. Along with GPS location calculated indexes are further forwarded to the server. Bluetooth interface for sensor – mobile phone connection had a huge influence on lowering the price of the IoT solution.

Istraživanje BioSensovog Centra za senzorske tehnologije je usmereno ka razvoju uređaja koji mere optička, fizička i elektromagnetna svojstva svoje okoline. Ipak, ova merenja moraju da dođu do korisnika, kako bi mogao da donosi optimalne odluke na osnovu njih. Za to je zadužen komunikacioni nivo IoT tehnologije koji se bavi pitanjima interoperabilnosti kako bi se omogućila komunikacija uređaja i prenos podataka između heterogenih senzora i servera.

Jedan od ciljeva istraživanja u oblasti IoT-a je da ostvari komunikaciju senzora sa drugim uređajima. Ovi uređaji se dele u dve grupe. Prva grupa se sastoji iz uređaja za komunikaciju između mašina, poput baznih stanica i gejtveja. Primer za ovo je modul za povezivanje koji je razvijen za 500 meteo stanica koje će BioSens rasporediti po Srbiji. Ovaj modul će im omogućiti da budu integrisane u LORA mrežu i skupljaju prostorno precizna merenja vremenskih parametara. Druga grupa se sastoji iz mobilnih telefona i tableta, odnosno, uređaja za direktnu prezentaciju očitavanja korisniku. Ilustracija ovoga je uspostavljanje komunikacije sa Plant-O-Meter-om koji detektuje refleksiju od površine biljke u četiri opsega (plavom, zelenom, crvenom i blisko infracrvenom). Cilj ovog projekta bio je da se obrada podataka izmesti sa samog uređaja na mobilni telefon. Rešenje koristi dva tipa bežičnog povezivanja (Bluetooth i Wi-Fi) za prenos geolokalizovanih informacija u realnom-vremenu. Uspostavljeni komunikacioni sloj prenosi merenja spektralne refleksije na mobilni telefon gde se izračunavaju vegetacioni indeksi. Zajedno sa GPS lokacijom izračunati indeksi se dalje prosleđuju serveru. Bluetooth konekcija je značajno doprinela sniženju cene IoT rešenja.

BioSense Accelerator is an intensive 3-month program that targets early-stage AgTech startups and acts as a bridge between science and business. It is an excellent opportunity for startups to bring their bold AgTech ideas to life, grow, fast track their journey, and solve key challenges in the agrifood sector. The accelerator is the only one in the country that provides support to domestic and regional IT entrepreneurs focused on creating innovative and groundbreaking digital solutions for agriculture.
&nbsp;
The first batch of BioSense Accelerator started in October 2019 and over the course of three months that were jam-packed with interactive workshops and bespoke trainings, 8 teams mastered multiple skills: how to develop a business idea, define a business model, identify the needs of future users and conduct detailed analysis of the market and competition. Top-notch tech and business support, as well as guidance from industry and technology experts brought startups and their ideas to the next level. In the second batch (2020), we are joining forces with EFSE Fund and the best B2B accelerator in Europe, Startup Wise Guys.
&nbsp;
Besides a comprehensive support, BioSense Accelerator has given the teams a get-ready guide for fundraising, and startups that participated in the first batch raised 140K Euros over a period of six months.
&nbsp;
The idea of BioSense Accelerator is to boost entrepreneurial mentality in our country and subsequently, that will lead to economic growth and development. The goal is also to motivate regional IT entrepreneurs to be bold and create their own products.

BioSens akcelerator je intenzivan, tromesečni program namenjen AgTech startapima u ranoj fazi i predstavlja snažan most između nauke i biznisa. Program omogučava startapima da rastu, ubrzaju svoje putovanje od početne AgTech ideje do biznisa, i reše ključne izazove u poljoprivredno-prehrambenom sektoru. BioSens akcelerator je jedini takve vrste u Srbiji koji pruža podršku domaćim i regionalnim IT preduzetnicima usredsređenim na stvaranje inovativnih i revolucionarnih digitalnih rešenja za poljoprivredu.

BioSense Institute (Institute for Research and Development of Information Technology in Biosystems) is a leading Serbian Digital Innovation Hub (DIH) focused on bringing together various stakeholders from industry, field of research, entrepreneurial community and the general public. As such, BioSense acts as a one-stop-shop, providing competitive services and introducing digital innovations while connecting research, entrepreneurship, science and market-ready solutions.
&nbsp;
Since the DIH ecosystem in Serbia and the region is still in the early stages, BioSense works towards fulfilling its mission of bringing digital solutions to the broad farm-to-fork value chain. This is achieved by capitalizing on the strong technical talent, its scientific excellence and its understanding of the market. By using these three aspects, various activities are undertaken by BioSense staff while supporting the development of new in-house solutions, as well as those coming from the community built around the Institute. Innovations supported by BioSense are explored among farmers, advisory services, entrepreneurs, high schools, university graduates and professors. The lean multi actor approach allows for innovation to be deeply knitted into various parts of society while allowing our stakeholders to contribute to the way we innovate by giving us valuable feedback and needs for further advancement.

Three types of services are at the core of BioSense DIH activity: business, technical and ecosystem. In addition, ongoing training, and skill development, perceived as DIHs umbrella activity, is equally targeting all three core pillars. This means that external parties can receive support while developing their technical solution, receiving business advice, or by being introduced to relevant partners and communities. These services are delivered through different activities, both project-based and commercial. In achieving so, the <a href="/en/collaborate/living-lab?id=88">PA4ALL Living Lab</a> facilities can be an enabling environment for prototyping, while the <a href="/en/collaborate/biosense-accelerator?id=1827">BioSense Accelerator</a> offers guidance for AgTech entrepreneurs in the early idea stage.

Activities and accomplishments of BioSense DIH have been recognized both in Serbia and internationally. Since 2015, BioSense has been involved in some of the largest DIH based projects such as, IoF2020, SmartAgriHubs, agROBOfood and DIATOMIC. Our DIH is also part of <a href="https://smartanythingeverywhere.eu/">Smart anything anywhere</a> initiative, supporting SMEs with access to funding and expertise. In addition, the Institute works with large multi-national corporate stakeholders from various industries such as computer software, gaming and insurance, national bodies such as the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy and the Cabinet of the Prime Minister as well as with citizens, farmers, educational institutions, other DIHs, policy makers, etc.

Through these projects and activities, BioSense has not only contributed to digitizing the Serbian society but has also made a Europe-wide impact and continues to work on pioneering technologies and solutions.

BioSens Institut (Istraživačko &#8211; razvojni institut za informacione tehnologije biosistema) je vodeći srpski Digitalni Inovacioni Hab (DIH) koji je fokusiran na okupljanje različitih interesnih grupa iz industrije, naučne oblasti, preduzetničke zajednice i javnosti. Kao takav, BioSens je jedinstveni šalter (One-Stop-Shop) koji pruža usluge u domenu informacionih i komunikacionih tehnologija u poljoprivredi.

Cilj projekta: Advance eLTER predstavlja presudan korak u izgradnji evropske istraživačke infrastrukture lokacija za dugoročno istraživanje ekosistema i društveno-ekoloških istraživačkih platformi (eLTER RI), a sve to kako bi pružio najkvalitetnije podatke i usluge komplementarne evropskim i globalnim istraživanjima zaštite životne sredine.

O projektu: Projekat će sprovesti važan konceptualni rad i pripremne korake ka omogućavanju istraživanja „Kritične zone“, glavnih ekosistema i socioekoloških sistema na evropskom nivou, čiji je cilj podrška donošenju odluka u vezi sa uslugama ekosistema i biodiverzitetom.

Advance_eLTER – Advancing the European Long-Term Ecosystem, critical zone and socio-ecological Research Infrastructure towards ESFRI

Research and innovation at BioSense is developed in a close interaction with farmers and the agrifood sector, government bodies, entrepreneurs and business community, international researchers, and citizens. We work together to create a new generation of open innovations which will be readily used, and which will bring benefits across the entire value-chain.

As a meeting place for all the relevant stakeholders, we have established PA4ALL – Precision Agriculture Living Lab. This is the first living laboratory in Serbia and one of the first in Europe to focus on precision agriculture. PA4ALL takes full advantage of inter-sectoral cross-fertilization of ideas and offers possibilities to test ideas and prototypes in the real-world setting.
&nbsp;
Over the last 5 years, PA4ALL has been placing an increasing emphasis on the importance of multi-actor and transdisciplinary projects. Since Living Labs provides a meeting point for true engagement of diverse groups of actors in joint research and innovation, PA4ALL based its activities on educating its community on precision agriculture, motivating end-users to test and validate the IT innovations and ensuring their adoption among various stakeholders. It is, therefore, not surprising that PA4ALL strives to even change the curriculum in high-school education in order to cultivate the knowledge on precision agriculture in the society.
&nbsp;
PA4ALL activities are bridging the gap between the leisurely changing public sector and modern technologies which are modifying the way agriculture is perceived today. By reinforcing co-creation and multi-stakeholder participation, PA4ALL is not only gradually widening its network but also encouraging and supporting new Living Labs which emerged in the region in the meantime. In addition to the above-mentioned, throughout the Living Lab approach, PA4ALL plans to create a future network of actors who are expected to closely cooperate in the field of agroecology, which is a new concept thriving to become a pivotal change in the way agriculture production impacts the environment.
&nbsp;
It is relevant to mention that PA4ALL also encourages the academy to engage more with the users of research, industry, government, and other relevant actors in order to implement precision agriculture in real-life decision-making processes. One of the methods mostly used for the purpose of implementing Living Lab approaches among the research community is RRI &#8211; Responsible Research and Innovation. RRI involves engaging the communities affected by innovation and ensuring that they have the knowledge necessary to understand the implications by furthering science education which is exactly PA4ALL’s main goal for the future.

BioSense provides the connecting link in the value chain by:

<li>Promoting the use of advanced ICT technologies to local farmers and assisting them in improving their performance and complying with environmental regulations;</li>
<li>Developing win-win synergies with agri-business support companies of the region (providers of fertilizers, pesticides, consulting services), that currently consist the most agile and motivated link in the value chain, since they have both direct access to farmers and clear motives to introduce advanced technologies as complimentary services to their existing portfolio;</li>
<li>Encouraging the local ICT sector to move towards a paradigm-shift, namely from a strategy based on outsourcing that simply exploits the relative low wage costs of developers, to one that is based upon the competitive strengths of the entire regional eco-system and the exploitation of own solutions, with significantly higher added value.</li>
<li>The introduction of ICT subject in high schools specialized in agriculture and educating younger generations on the implications which arise from AgTech will increase the awareness of the relationship between technology and agriculture and therefore make agriculture more attractive to younger generations.</li>

Istraživanja i razvoj inovacija na Institutu BioSens uvek se odvijaju u saradnji sa farmerima, poljoprivrednim i vladinim sektorom, preduzetničkom i poslovnom zajednicom, međunarodnim istraživačkim centrima i građanima. Radimo zajedno u cilju stvaranja novih „otvorenih inovacija“ koje će biti lake za upotrebu i koje će doneti korist svim učesnicima u celokupnom lancu vrednosti.

Kao mesto okupljanja svih značajnih interesnih grupa, osnovali smo „živu laboratoriju“ za preciznu poljoprivredu (eng. Precision Agriculture Living Lab – PA4ALL). Ovakva laboratorija je pionirski poduhvat u Srbiji i jedna od prvih u Evropi koja je usmerena na preciznu poljoprivredu. Spajanje ideja koje potiču iz različitih sektora i mogućnost testiranja novih rešenja i prototipova u realnim uslovima – na terenu, glavni su ciljevi PA4ALL. 
Od 2013. godine, PA4ALL stavlja sve veći akcenat na projekte koji povezuju učesnike različitih profila i više disciplina. Budući da je ideja koncepta “žive laboratorije” da stvori zajednicu orijentisanu ka istraživanju i inovacijama, PA4ALL svoje aktivnosti temelji upravo na edukaciji zajednice o preciznoj poljoprivredi i njenoj primeni. Stoga nije iznenađujuće što PA4ALL kroz svoje projekte nastoji čak i da promeni nastavni plan i program u srednjoškolskom obrazovanju kako bi se u društvu negovalo znanje o preciznoj poljoprivredi. Tako se premošćuje jaz između javnog sektora i savremenih tehnologija koje menjaju način na koji se poljoprivreda danas doživljava.

Podstičući viziju zajedničkog stvaranja i kreativne saradnje, PA4ALL ne samo da postepeno širi svoju mrežu, već i pruža podršku novim “živim laboratorijama” koje su se u međuvremenu pojavile u regionu. Osim toga, po principu koncepta “žive laboratorije”, PA4ALL planira da stvori i ojača novu mrežu stručanjaka čiji će fokus biti oblast agroekologije, novi koncept koji podstiče ključne promene u načinu na koji poljoprivredna proizvodnja utiče na okolinu.

Kako bi poljoprivreda u Srbiji pratila svetske trendove i koncept precizne poljoprivrede bio implementiran na što bolji način, PA4ALL se zalaže za povezivanje naučne zajednice sa krajnjim korisnicima, industrijom, vladinim sektorom i drugim relevantnim učesnicima. Jedna od metoda koja se koristi u svrhu promocije samog koncepta “žive laboratorije” u naučnim krugovima je RRI (Responsible Research and Innovation) &#8211; Odgovorno istraživanje i inovacije. Ona uključuje angažovanje svih zajednica u oblasti nauke i inovacija, zajedničko stvaranje novih rezultata koji će doprineti transformaciji društva i unapređenje sistema obrazovanja, što je upravo i glavni cilj PA4ALL-a.

Institut BioSens dodaje kariku koja nedostaje u čitavom lancu vrednosti time što:

<li>Promoviše upotrebu naprednih IKT tehnologija lokalnim poljoprivrednim proizvođačima uz konstantnu asistenciju u cilju poboljšanja njihovih performansi, uz poštovanje propisa o zaštiti životne sredine;</li>
<li>Razvija sinergiju sa kompanijama koje pružaju podršku razvoju sektora poljoprivrede u regionu (proizvođači đubriva, pesticida, pružaoci konsultantskih usluga), koji trenutno predstavljaju najagilnije i najmotivisanije igrače, s obzirom na činjenicu da imaju direktan pristup poljoprivrednim proizvođačima i jasne motive za uvođenje usluga zasnovanih na naprednim tehnologijama pored usluga koje već pružaju;</li>
<li>Podstiče lokalni IKT sektor da menja princip na kom funkcioniše, te da svoju strategiju zasnovanu na sprovođenju operativnih aktivnosti za evropske kompanije, koje koriste prednost relativno niske cene rada inženjera, pomeri ka strategiji zasnovanoj na kompetitivnim snagama čitavog regionalnog ekosistema i eksploataciji sopstvenih rešenja (proizvoda) sa značajno većom dodatom vrednošću.</li>
<li>Uvođenje predmeta iz oblasti informacionih tehnologija u poljoprivredi u srednje poljoprivredne škole i obrazovanje mlađih generacija o implikacijama koje proizlaze iz Agtech-a podići će svest o uskoj povezanosti tehnologije i poljoprivrede danas i stoga poljoprivredu učiniti privlačnijom za mlađe generacije.</li>

<li>You work at the BioSense Institute, but at the same time you are a Ph.D. student. How important is it for young people and students to take their first career steps right at the Institute?</li>
</ol>

When you start your carrier as a young researcher, it is really important in which institution you start, what team of colleagues, and how much patience, time, and understanding you receive from your supervisor or mentor, because you are a student who already finished the studies with probably very little or no practical knowledge at all. All of this is very important so that you do not give up facing a rush of insecurity, thinking “this is not for me, they are all Einsteins,&#8221; and choose another way of your carrier. As someone who already had experience, I can say that BioSense gave me a smooth transition from student life to reality. With a lot of theoretical and a little practical knowledge, I got the opportunity to learn, improve and develop my ideas step by step, and BioSense provided me with all the necessary conditions.

<li>What projects are you working on and what is your role in them?</li>
</ol>

Currently, for me as a Ph.D. candidate, my biggest project is my Ph.D. thesis, in which I am working on the planned development of irrigation in the Vojvodina region. This research was a part of the APV project proposal, which is finished, but my research continued. Now, I am working on detecting irrigation fields from satellite as well as on the geospatial analysis of that fields. Besides that, I work on several national and international projects where I process satellite but also other geospatial data with the aim to keep a sustainable environment, sustainable agriculture, and water resource management.

<li>Your areas of research are remote sensing, geoinformatics, water resource management, agriculture and environment. What led you to unite all of these fields and what is perhaps the most important connecting point? </li>
</ol>
 
I would say that the most important connecting point is life on the Earth. As someone who works with science, I do not want that science to remain within the framework of research papers and conferences, but to be a contribution to a better quality of life. As a geographer and nature lover, I spend a lot of time in nature and the desire to preserve it is something that gives me motivation for research. Nature conservation is closely related to human life, so we have a closed circle that requires knowledge from different fields in order to be able to realize some ideas. With the use of remote sensing and geographic information systems, as well as the application of artificial intelligence, today we can handle a large amount of data and thus come to various discoveries, solutions and applications applicable in everyday life.

<li>They say that without science there is no social prosperity and development. How do you see it? What is the most important role of science and scientists today?</li>
</ol>
&nbsp;
As I already mentioned, the most important role of the scientist is to make science available and applicable for anyone in social community. That is the only way to reach some aim, development, and prosperity of society. Everything comes from science, and the day we decided to deal with it, that day we took responsibility towards society. Of course, we are not the only ones who influence whether something will be applied in society or not, but it is certainly up to us to start the initiative, actively participate in changes, and make our contribution through the knowledge we have.

<li>&#8220;Science without prudence is like a lottery game. The scientist, namely, is putting himself in danger of losing everything he’s invested,&#8221; Einstein said. Do you believe that to be the case? Or does a scientist always win?</li>

Einstein was a smart man, he knew why he said that 🙂 However, everything is a matter of perception. I believe that a scientist never loses. Work in science can be compared with climbing the mountain. If you start the climb with the sole aim of conquering the summit and a storm hits, you will be forced to come back down, and you will be disappointed because you do not have a selfie from the summit. An empty story. However, if the summit was not your only goal on that climb, but experience and psycho-physical development, you will return to the foothills not disappointed, aware that you have much more experience and readiness to conquer that peak a second time. Then the next one is even higher, then the next one is even heavier. It is the same in science. The storms that come may throw you back a few steps and even to the beginning, but now you have a lot more experience and knowledge that this time brings you, if not to the top, then definitely closer to it. If we want to climb Mount Everest, there is a long list of mountains to climb, descend, and not give up! 🙂

<li>Vi radite na Institutu BioSens, ali u isto vreme ste i doktorand. Koliko je važno za mlade ljude i studente da svoje prve korake naprave baš na Institutu?</li>

Kad započinjete svoju karijeru kao mladi istaživač veoma je važno gde je započinjete, kakva je institucija u koju idete, kakav je kolektiv, koliko strpljenja, vremena i razumevanja imate od strane mentora jer ste student koji je tek završio fakultet sa verovatno vrlo malo praktičnog iskustva.
&nbsp;
Ovo je sve veoma važno da ne biste pred naletom nesigurnosti i „nije ovo za mene, ovde su svi Ajnštajni“ odustali i usmerili karijeru u neku drugu stranu. Kao neko ko sa sobom već nosi ovo iskustvo mogu da kažem da mi BioSens pružio jedan fin prelazak iz studentskog u realan život. Sa mnogo teorijskog i malo praktičnog znanja dobila sam priliku da učim, usavršavam se i razvijam svoje ideje korak po korak za šta mi je BioSens pružio sve neophodne uslove.

<li>Na kojim projektima radite i koja je Vaša uloga u njima?</li>

Trenutno, najveći projekat za mene kao doktoranda jeste moja teza gde radim na planskom razvoju navodnjavanja u Vojvodini. Ovo istraživanje je bilo deo APV projekta koji je završen ali naravno, posle toga moje istraživanje je nastavljeno. Trenutno se bavim detekcijom navodnjavanih površina iz satelita kao i njihovom geoprostornom analizom. Pored toga radim na nekoliko nacionalnih i internacionalnih projekata gde se bavim analizom satelitskih slika i drugih geoprostornih podataka u cilju očuvanja životne sredine, održive poljoprivrede i održivog upravljanja vodnim resursima.

<li>Vaše oblasti istraživanja su daljinska detekcija, geoinformatika, upravljanje vodnim resursima, poljoprivreda i životna sredna. Šta vas je navelo da objedinite sve to i šta je možda ovim oblastima najvažnija povezna tačka?</li>
</ol>
&nbsp;
Rekla bih da je najvažnija povezna tačka život na zemlji. Kao neko ko se bavi naukom, ne želim da ona nauka ostane u okvirima časopisa i konferencija, nego da moj rad bude doprinos za bolji i kvalitetniji život. Kao geograf i ljubitelj prirode mnogo vremena provodim u prirodi i želja za njenim očuvanjem je nešto što mi daje motivaciju za istraživanja. Očuvanje prirode je usko povezano sa životom čoveka tako da onda imamo jednu zaokruženu celinu koja zahteva znanje iz različitih oblasti kako biso uspeli da realizujemo neke ideje. Upotrebom daljinske detekcije i geografskih informacionih sistema, ali i primenom veštačke inteligencije, danas možemo da baratamo sa velikom količinom podataka i tako dođemo do različitih otkrića, rešenja i aplikacija primenljivih u svakodnevnom životu.

<li>Kažu da bez nauke nema društvenog prosperiteta i razvoja. Kako Vi to vidite? Koja je najznačajnija uloga nauke i naučnika danas?</li>
</ol>
&nbsp;
Kao što sam već pomenula, najvažnija uloga naučnika jeste da nauku učini dostupnom i primenljivom bilo kome u društvenoj zajednici. Jedino tako možemo da postignemo razvoj i prosperitet društva u kom živimo. Sve potiče od nauke, i onog dana kad smo odlučili da se time bavimo, tog dana smo na neki način i preuzeli odgovornost prema društvu. Naravno, nismo jedini koji utičemo na to da li će nešto biti primenjeno u društvu ili ne, ali na nama je svakako da pokrećemo inicijativu, aktivno učestvujemo u promenama i damo svoj doprinos kroz znanje kojim raspolažemo.

<li>„Nauka bez razboritosti je kao igra na lutriji. Naučnik se, naime, izlaže opasnosti da izgubi sve što je uložio“, govorio ja Ajnštajn. Da li verujete da je tako? Ili naučnik ipak uvek dobija?</li>

Ajnštaj je pametan čovek bio, zna on zašto je to govorio 🙂 No, sve je stvar percepcije. Lično smatram da naučnik nikad ne gubi. Rad u nauci možemo da uporedimo sa planinarenjem. Ukoliko krenete na uspon sa jedinim ciljem da osvojite vrh i naiđe oluja, bićete prinuđeni da se vratite dole i razočarani što nemate selfi sa vrha. Prazna priča. Međutim, ukoliko vam vrh nije bio jedini cilj na tom penjanju već iskustvo i psiho-fizički razvoj ličnosti, vratićete se u podnožje nerazočarani, svesni da imate mnogo više iskustva i spremnosti da taj vrh osvojite drugi put. Pa sledeći još viši, pa sledeći još teži. Tako je i u nauci. Oluje koje nailaze mogu da vas bace nekoliko koraka nazad pa čak i na početak, ali sad imate mnogo više iskustva i znanja što vas ovaj put dovodi, ako ne do vrha onda, definitivno bliže njemu. Da bismo popeli na Mont Everest dugačak je spisak planina na koje se treba popeti, spustiti i neodustati! 🙂

Project aim: The project aims to bring together a single consortium of e-infrastructure providers, research infrastructure operators and researchers from a wide range of scientific disciplines and to point out that data preservation, access and data sharing should be supported in a much better way. There is a growing awareness in most research communities that the “growing tide of data” will require new approaches to data management and that data retention, access and data sharing should be supported in a much better way. EUDAT2020's vision is to enable European researchers and practitioners from any research discipline to store, retrieve, access and process data in a reliable environment.

About the project: EUDAT2020 is based on the foundations laid by the first EUDAT project, strengthening the links between CDIs and expanding its functionalities and competencies. EUDAT2020 services will cover access and storage, from informal data exchange to long-term archiving, and the identification, discovery, and calculation of big data. One of the main ambitions of EUDAT2020 is to bridge the gap between research infrastructure and e-Infrastructure through an active engagement strategy. Over the course of its three-year lifetime, EUDAT2020 will develop CDI into a sound data infrastructure for Europe, and position EUDAT as a sustainable infrastructure for the future changing demands of research communities.

Cilj projekta: Razvoj prototipova kritičnih komponenti za projektovanje prenosivih elektronskih sistema koji se koriste u preciznoj poljoprivredi.

O projektu: Zahtevi koji se postavljaju pred savremene prenosive elektronske uređaje u preciznoj poljoprivredi su male dimenzije, niska cena i fleksibilnost. Najkritičniji deo predstavlja projektovanje interfejsa koji reguliše napajanje uređaja. Istraživanje u okviru ovog projekta je podeljeno u tri faze. Prva faza istraživanja je usmerena na razvoj planarnih, fleksibilnih magnetnih komponenti. Druga faza itraživanja je usmerena na razvoj komponenti za konverziju neiskorišćene energija iz prirode u korisne oblike. Treća faza itraživanja je usmerena na projektovanje komponenti za skladištenje energije. Akcenat fabrikacije će biti na visokom stepenu fleksibilnosti i minijaturizacije. Mogućnost primene rezultata je u malim, prenosivim i bežičnim sistemima koji se koriste u preciznoj poljoprivredi, ali i šire u zdravstvu, monitoringu, industriji, itd.
