Golden Paragraph
Jelena Ačanski is a third year PhD student with research area in taxonomy, systematic and biogeography of hoverflies (Diptera:Syrphidae). Methods that she mostly used in her research are insect landmark and semi-landmark geometric morphometric, statistical analysis of shape, species distribution and ecological niche analysis. Jelena, for the first time, introduced geometric morphometry on male genitalia and statistic analysis of ecological parameters for solving taxonomical problems in hoverfly family. She is also the author and coordinator on Balkan hoverflies database, which included collections from many European museums.

Dimitrije Radišić works as a research assistant within project “Conservation strategy for protected and strictly protected hoverflies (Insecta: Diptera: Syrphidae) species in Serbia – Case study“ funded by Serbian Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development. He has 10 year of experience in different ornithological research, mostly bird population mapping and census. As a member of Bird Protection and Study Society of Serbia, he participated in more than 15 surveys and monitoring programs of birds in Serbia and few project about implementation of European Environmental Policies.  His work is focused on ecological and bigeografical analysis of bird distribution in Serbia, as a tool for evaluation of national ecological network. He uses different GIS based modeling approaches for species distribution modeling (MAXENT) and ecological network evaluation (LARCH).  Within Laboratory for biodiversity research and protection, he also works on evaluation of a saline-steppe corridor Rusanda-Slano Kopovo and modeling of hover flies distribution on Balkan Peninsula and Europe.

Golden Paragraph
Dr Ricarte did his degree in Biology and PhD studies at the University of Alicante, Spain. For his PhD, completed in 2008, he studied the insect biodiversity and conservation of habitats in a Spanish protected area. From 2009-2010, he worked digitizing data of the Entomological Collection of the University of Alicante for the Global Biodiversity Information Facility, GBIF. From 2011-2013, Dr Ricarte worked as a Pelham-Clinton Fellow in Entomology at the National Museums Scotland, Edinburgh, UK. Although widely interested in Zoology and Entomology, hoverflies have focused his entire career. Apart from the systematics of Neotropical hoverflies, Dr Ricarte keeps other research lines on in Europe; for instance, the study of plant-eater (e.g. Merodon) and saproxylic (tree dependent) hoverflies, the use of Syrph the Net for assessing the conservation status of habitats or other aspects on Conservation Biology of hoverflies.

Golden Paragraph
Sonja is a researcher in the field of forest governance. She is currently working towards her PhD degree on the effectiveness of protected areas in forest conservation. Her main research interests are in governance models and how governance determines the effectiveness of forest management. She places emphasis on the role of biodiversity for ecosystem functioning and provision of ecosystem services, and how it is integrated into forest management. She has a 3-year Marie Curie research training for interdisciplinary research on natural resource governance, and 6-year experience of working with different natural- and social-science methods to study forest governance related problems.
